Adaptive Aquatics at NKC

Adaptive Aquatics at Neva King Cooper is a special areas program that is offered to all of our student population, twice a week, for forty minute sessions. The only requirement is that the student receives permission from their parent or caregiver at the beginning of each school year. The program has been sanctioned by the American Red Cross and approved by the Dade County Public Health Department. The instructor is a certified Miami-Dade County Public School teacher, who is also certified in water safety. There are also three other certified lifeguards on staff, who work hands on, with our students
The inclusion of this program in our school can provide immeasurable benefits to our students and community. Not only does this program provide aquatic therapy-like activities, but we also teach basic swimming and water safety according to American Red Cross standards. The pool is kept inside, and at a constant 92 degrees year round. Besides having a state of the art sanitizing system, that we constantly monitor, we use bromine in place of chlorine, and an Ozone Generator as a secondary sanitizing system. Many accidents can be avoided if children receive qualified instruction in the areas of swimming basics and water safety.
